Give me fives! for Kindergarten

We introduced counting by fives this week. We started by reviewing counting by tens with a hundreds chart and bingo dobber. Then we counted by ones and dobbed every five numbers. Next we read those numbers out loud...5,10,15,20...etc. We repeated last week's Leapfrog Hoops, but counting by fives this time. We also used our "give me five" hands to count by fives quickly, counting the number of fingers if we get confused.

How many owls can live in a tree? Number words for Kindergarten

Since we are studying animal homes and number words we completed this fun activity. Dottie read the number words and made THAT number of owls feel at home in that tree. It was a hoot! Trees Five Owls Put in number order!

Operation Christmas Child

As a part of our Social Studies Unit this week Dottie and Addie took their own purses to the store and purchased a shoe box full of gifts for kids across the globe. They included a letter, map, and picture of themselves. It was a great lesson in giving, economics, sociology, geography, math, volume (trying to fit it all in the box, a real challenge) and most of all sharing God's love and blessings! A Wet Pet for Kindergarten

I rarely feature our Phonics curriculum, because a lot of it is oral recitation, worksheets, and reading. ( Doesn't make for exciting pictures.) Dottie is completing her short e word families this week. She read s and spells a list of words, reads a story, and answers multiple choice questions about it each week! This week in honor of her Wet Pet story we got a new fish! A Wet Pet

Sight Word Nests for Kindergarten

Our new sight words this week are the number words. Although we are very familiar with them, we haven't memorized them until now. To follow in our bird unit fashion, and because they are number words, I asked Dootie to read the word and put the appropriate number of eggs in each nest!
